What causes cracks to form in the walls and floor?
A settling foundation will show cracking in the structure. The larger the crack, the further the foundation has moved.

What causes a house to settle?
Several elements can cause a structure to settle. The most common are poor soil conditions in which the foundation was constructed on, and high volumes of water collecting around the foundation. Once the soil surrounding your foundation becomes overly saturated, it tremendously compromises the stability of your home.

Could a structural problem exist even though cracks are not evident? Structural problems may not be noticeable in their early stages. Cracks, termite damaged beams, and failed cinderblock pillars can weaken floors and walls, and can lead to serious structural problems in the future.

How serious can moisture problems under a home be?  A certain amount of moisture content in soil is expected. However, high water tables can exceed those levels. Water saturating the foundation over time can chemically break down the bonding agents that hold the cement foundation together. Excessive moisture can also cause rotting of the wood beams under the home. Williams Structural offers waterproofing, and moisture control solutions for these problems.
